New Associate - Troy Wano

The partners of Govett Quilliam are delighted to announce the appointment of Troy Wano as an associate from 1 December 2011. Troy joined the firm earlier this year and works in our Civil Litigation and Employment Teams in our New Plymouth Office and specialises in all employment, debt recovery, insolvency and commercial and civil litigation matters.

Govett Quilliam's "Flying Hawks"

For the first time in a few years Govett Quilliam has put a touch rugby team together. The GQ “Flying Hawks” can be seen on Wednesday evenings at the social touch competition at Sanders Park. The Flying Hawks have put in some solid performances during recent grading games and are starting to gel nicely as a team in time for the competition to start properly.

Around the Mountain Relay

Govett Quilliam’s running team successfully completed the Around The Mountain relay on 11/12 November in a great time of 13 hours and 47 minutes. This time put the team in 20th place out of 40 teams. Running conditions were great and almost all runners bettered their estimated times. A big thanks to the support crew who cheered the GQ runners on throughout the day. It was a great effort by all!

On Sunday 30 October 2011 Troy Wano finished the Auckland Marathon in 4.08! With an early start on the ferry at 4:30am to make the race start at 6:10am the day was perfect! Though the last few kilometres were a real struggle, the crowds cheered him over the finish line! What an achievement! His running shoes have now been put away for a while…

Golf Champion

Congratulations to Margaret McDougall who won the Bronze 1 division of the Westown Weekend Ladies Golf Club Champs.
On Sunday 25 September 2011 the club champs were played over 36 holes and Margaret managed to win 4/3. Her next challenge is to play in the Champions of Champions which will be held at the Stratford Golf Course on Wednesday 16 November 2011 - again another 36 hole event. Margaret also played in the Champions of Champions which was held at the Stratford Golf Course on Wednesday 16 November 2011 – the Westown Weekend Ladies team finished third in the Rosebowl event.

David joined Govett Quilliam in July 2011.
David has been working in the area of family law since his 2005 admission to the bar. He has spent six years working for families throughout Taranaki, and regularly appears in both the Hawera and New Plymouth Courts.
David has experience working across the full range of family law matters, from parenting and guardianship disputes to relationship property, domestic violence, Hague convention matters and challenging wills.

Congratulations - Legal Executives Diploma

Congratulations to Suzanne Duke and Julie Peterson who have recently completed their Legal Executives Diploma.
A morning tea was held at our office on 21 July and Suzanne and Julie were presented with their Diploma by members of the Law Society. Suzanne and Julie have completed the six papers through the Open Polytechnic while they have been working.
